Modem

The modem connects your home to the provider’s network. Cable, DSL, and fibre-based services use different equipment and provisioning rules.

The router shares the connection with devices and usually creates the Wi-Fi network. Router quality can affect real-world performance.

Mesh systems can help larger homes, but they do not fix a weak incoming internet connection or a provider-side outage.

Compatibility note: Always confirm equipment rules with the current provider before buying used or third-party hardware.
